Let’s begin
with the question.

For UAE and cross-border matters, start with the context, the forum and what needs to move next. We will route it to the right team.

its beginning.

This form prepares an email to the firm in your own mail app — nothing is stored on this website. Please keep it high-level.

  • 01What happened, or what needs to happen
  • 02The entity, project or person involved
  • 03Where it sits — onshore, DIFC, ADGM, a free zone or abroad
  • 04The decision ahead and its timetable
  • 05Key agreements or documents (described, not attached)
  • 06Your preferred next step

Submitting opens your email app with a prepared draft to info@trw.co. It does not create a lawyer–client relationship.

Questions about
UAE jurisdictions.

The questions clients most often ask before a first conversation — answered in general terms. The facts of your matter will shape the real answer.

01Which court will hear a dispute in the UAE?

It depends on the parties, the contract and where the business is located. Onshore matters generally go to the federal or emirate courts (including the Dubai Courts and the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department). The DIFC Courts and ADGM Courts hear matters connected with their financial centres and, in many cases, matters the parties have agreed in writing to bring before them. An arbitration agreement can take a dispute out of the courts altogether.

02What is the difference between the DIFC and ADGM?

Both are financial free zones with their own common-law-based legal systems, independent courts and financial regulators — the DFSA in the DIFC (Dubai) and the FSRA in ADGM (Abu Dhabi). In ADGM, English common law applies directly; the DIFC has its own body of laws drafted largely on common-law principles. The right choice depends on the activity, the regulator and the commercial setting.

03Do I need a mainland or a free-zone company?

It depends on where the business will trade, who its customers are and which activities it will carry on. Free-zone entities can usually be wholly foreign-owned but are generally limited in trading directly onshore; a mainland company can trade across the UAE subject to its licence. We look at the operating model before recommending a structure.

04Can a UAE contract choose a foreign law or forum?

Often, yes — particularly in commercial contracts, and especially where the DIFC, ADGM or arbitration is chosen. Some matters, such as certain real estate, employment and public-policy issues, remain subject to mandatory UAE rules regardless of the parties’ choice. The clause should be tested against where enforcement will eventually take place.

05Can TRW help with a matter outside the UAE?

Cross-border questions are routed across the TRW network — Dhaka, London, Singapore, China and Europe — and, where needed, coordinated with local counsel within professional-responsibility limits.

06Does sending an enquiry create a lawyer–client relationship?

No. Website content and an initial enquiry do not create a lawyer–client relationship. An engagement begins only once scope, conflicts and terms are confirmed in writing. Please do not send confidential or privileged material until a secure channel has been agreed.
